Each train has reserved seats under VIP/Emergency quota. This seat is to be used by any person or VIP or Railway officials only in case of emergency.

To get a seat under the emergency quota, a letter of recommendation issued by a gazetted officer or a concerned VIP has to be submitted before the journey.

An RTI was filed with South Eastern Railway to obtain such type of data about the Geetanjali Express (12860) which originated from Howrah Railway Station Kolkata and the destination is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai.

The point wise details asked in the RTI are :-

  1. In the month of May 2022, how many seats were allotted or number of passengers travelled under VIP Quota/Emergency Quota in Sleeper Class, 3AC, 2AC in Geetanjali Express. (Kindly provide proper day wise categorisation of allotted seats).
  2. Kindly provide the designation of each traveller under VIP Quota/Emergency Quota in Geetanjali Express in the month of May 2022 in each class (Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC).(Kindly provide proper day wise categorisation).

2. For point number 2 CPIO replied that :-
As notified by Railway Board the designation of each traveller travelled under VIP Quota/Emergency Quota in train number 12860 Geetanjali Express in the month of May 2022 in each class pertains to third party information and cannot be provided as per extant rules.

Conclusion

  • The reply of the CPIO is very vague in nature and contains serious discrepancies.
  • We have filed an appeal against the reply of the CPIO.
  • We will update it as soon as we get an reply.
