India has diplomatic relations with almost every country in the world. India has embassies in every country to continue this relationship and to create seamless communication between the Indian and Foreign Governments.
Every Independence Day and Republic Day is celebrated by all the Embassies and High Commissions of India.
A lot of money is spent on these celebrations, which the Indian Public is unaware of.
An RTI was filed with High Commission of India Kampala, Uganda to know the below mentioned information :-
How much money (in Rs.) was spent on the occasion of Independence Day of India in the year 2020.
Copy of bills of all expenses incurred on the occasion of Independence of India in the year 2020.
How much money (in Rs.) was spent on the occasion of Independence Day of India in the year 2021.
Copy of bills of all expenses incurred on the occasion of Independence of India in the year 2021.
How much money (in Rs.) was spent on the occasion of Independence Day of India in the year 2022.
Copy of bills of all expenses incurred on the occasion of Independence of India in the year 2022.
The point wise reply of the concerned Central Public Information Officer is given below :-
For Point number 1 CPIO replied that :-
Rs. 50,976/- (Fifty Thousand Nine Hundred Thirty Six Rupees)of expenditure incurred on the celebration of Indian Independence Day 2020.
For point number 3 CPIO replied that :-
Rs. 74,139/- (Seventy Four Thousand One Hundred Thirty Nine)of expenditure incurred on the celebration of Indian Independence Day 2021.
For point number 5 CPIO replied that :-
Rs. 1,59,149/- (One Lakh Fifty Nine Thousand One Hundred Forty Nine Rupees)of expenditure incurred on the celebration of Indian Independence Day 2022.
For point number 2, 4 and 6 CPIO replied that :-
The information requested cannot be provided in terms of paras 8 (1) (a) & (d) of the RTI Act 2005.
Conclusion
CPIO's answer is satisfactory for point number 1, 3 and 5.
But CPIO failed to provide the copy of bills of expenses which is sought in point number 2, 4 and 6.
We filed an Appeal against the reply of the CPIO.
As soon as we get any answer. we will upload the same.
